Why do I need to mail in my Android device? Are plug and play sd cards available?
Android devices come with the OS (Android) installed on the device. Therefore, the work must be done where the OS lives - on the device itself. Only then will the device understand how to use the sd card.
Certain Android devices (Retroid Pocket 5, Retroid Pocket Flip 2) allow for booting an OS from an sd card. These listings are marked as ROCKNIX. You don't need to send in your device for ROCKNIX. It works with just the sd card - the card is the system.
Other non-Android (linux) devices, typically those released from Anbernic, TrimUI, Miyoo etc. also allow for bootable sd cards where the OS lives on the card. They're generally lower priced models and don't need to be sent in either. An sd card alone will provide a plug and play experience.
